How to de-odour leather goods

An ottoman will 'smell' when it has been made recently. Whilst that might be all well and good, but when you have a beautiful new piece of furniture that is stinking out the room it becomes a bit of an issue. We've got a few tips, that we personally use to help get rid of the stink from our ottomans!

Tip One:

Airing it out in a well-ventilated area. This can take 1-2 weeks for the smell to be gone, and is normally a very effective method!

But, we also understand that not everyone wants to wait that long. So...

Tip Two:

Wrapping it in newspaper for a day or two. Don't ask why, or how, but we've done it with leather bags and it's miraculously worked for us!

Tip Three:

The magic of baking soda!

  • Putting your ottoman into a plastic bag and sprinkling it with baking soda. The baking soda will absorb the odour and brush off easily once your finished.
  • When your pouf is in the bag with the sprinkled baking soda, make sure to give it a shake so that it's evenly distributed.
  • Leave it for a day or two, take the pouf out and dust off the baking soda and Voila!
